All Access Neimans Hosted By Michelle Bremer

I recently had the pleasure of hosting a Spring 2015 Fashion Trend Event at Neiman Marcus. For a captive audience of budget conscious fashionistas I presented the season’s hottest offerings from the American luxury retailer.

All Access Boba BarAll Access AudienceAll Access PresentationWith the assistance of models Sonya and Melissa I showed my own translations of the runway’s predominant Spring trends, brought down to earth and presented in a real-life way; fashion made easy for the everyday gals.  I styled four primary trend categories in a variety of ways, showing how one could take the trend quite literally or simply incorporate select elements from each trend to achieve the look and remain current.

3.1 Phillip Lim Spring 2015… Details, Details!

So my usual method of operations for conducting a translation blog post is that I view the runway shows, pick a few looks from my favorites, and search the internet for pieces that are similar but typically more affordable than the originals.  Well that process was determined to be useless when it came to the pieces that Phillip Lim sent down the runway for Spring 2015.  I found them to be unique in their construction, with rope piping details and asymmetrical patterns.  They seem comfortable and organic.  I had a hard time narrowing down my favorites and I could picture myself wearing any of the pieces in the collection.

When I attempted to find similar pieces online I was met with disappointment.  I exhausted all of my usual resources… and nothing!  The construction of each piece in this collection is so unusual, but so flattering to the female form.  WHY have we not seen this before?  Where has this been all my life?  Will the collection be successful on the commercial front?  I hope so.  I wish I could have found comparable pieces online, but alas I have failed.  I will not rest until I find something similar that I can actually afford.  For now, I will admit defeat and leave you with these pics of my favorite looks from the 3.1 Phillip Lim Spring 2015 Runway Show…

That Jumper. Those Shoes.

Throughout my long and spirited love affair with fashion there have always been two criteria by which I determine whether or not my relationship with any particular item will last; comfort and ‘wow factor’.  Enter this silk jumper and these amazing blue heels…

Runway Translation: Trending Tribal

Be ready for plenty of international influence in fashion this Spring buying season!  One of the most popular fashion trends for Spring takes its colorful inspiration from traditional tribal garments found in exotic lands around the globe…

Trending Tribal 2014

If wearing an African Aso-Oke (traditional dress and hat wrap) is not your style, you can still become an honorary style tribe member and tap into this trend by incorporating a touch of print into your ensemble.  Check out my runway translation below…

Trending Tribal-Shola Flat Ensemble

This look revolves around the ballet flats by Shola Designs… notice the fun African motif.  When paired with a black wrap top, linen shorts, and woven handbag these comfy flats provide the perfect touch of tribal inspiration for a cohesive look that’s subtle and on trend.  *Shop the look below.

I recently had the pleasure of meeting Shola’s designer, Shola Yusuf, at a Trunk Show hosted by Farrah Estrella of Estrella Fashion Report.  Shola is a local entrepreneur here in Tampa and originally hails from Nigeria.  I love her premier collection of shoes!  So much in fact that I couldn’t resist buying a gorgeous pair of turquoise platform stilettos.  I can’t wait to feature them in a future blog post.  Check out Shola’s beautiful traditional African ensemble…

*Fun Fashion Factoid:
“Traditional African clothing is generally very colorful. These colors actually have meaning. The yellows and golds tend to mean wealth and fertility because it is the color of a precious metal and the yolk of an egg. Red is viewed as the color of blood and tension. Blue is the color of peace and love. Green is the color of life and prosperity.”  ~Ask.com

So, I went to Rehab…

My name is Michelle, and I am a fashionholic.  I recently went to Rehab…

Rehab Collage-Storefront Inside

… a trendy designer consignor boutique that opened it’s newest location in Downtown St. Pete this past weekend.  Rehab Exchange buys, sells & trades modern & vintage designer apparel, shoes, handbags & accessories… with an edge!

I pulled a few dresses from the ubercool suspended racks to show one of my clients…

A little pre-fashion show action…

Rehab’s Grand Opening Fashion Show gave a glimpse into their naughty side, featuring a few overexposed avant-garde looks like assless chaps and chain bralettes.  The runway portion of the event was held two doors down from the boutique in an outdoor courtyard.  Apart from the drizzling rain, the show was fun and energized.  Rehab’s own Lauren Hubbard moderated onstage in a gorgeous gold leather cocktail dress while the beautiful amateur models (friends of Rehab) rocked it out and looked like they were having a blast!  They danced down the runway with so much energy my camera had a hard time keeping up.  I picked a few of my favorite dresses for this PG-rated post…

Denim Shorts With Oxfords

I was trying to think of fun ways to jazz up my vintage (okay, circa 2003) cut-off denim shorts, which I tend to throw on as soon as I roll out of bed.  Enter the metallic oxfords.  I can totally dig this look because it’s comfy without sacrificing style.  Amp up the fem-factor and balance the edgy shoes with a pretty floral top.  Grab your fedora and trendy shades and you’re out the door…

Runway Translation: The Spring Shorts Suit

Short Suits Runway Spring 2013

I love the idea of wearing shorts to work!  The Spring runways were filled with models wearing shorts with jackets.  Some designers showed two-piece suits (Tory Burch, Michael Kors), while others paired separates to create more visual interest (Helmut Lang).  Here’s my version of the latter…

Culotte Conversion

First thing’s first: Let’s shop the closet!

After a sit-down with my personal CFO (Mr. Wallet), I’ve decided that it would be a good idea to work with what I’ve already got in my closet before I go out hunting in the Fashion Forest.  Mr. Wallet agrees… the hunt can be very dangerous for him after all.

I’ll begin by pulling out all of the old styles that I no longer wear.  Whether it’s a tired old cardigan from my preppy phase or a pleated floral skirt that now reminds me of a lamp shade, I’ll pull it.  Why waste valuable real estate holding on to pieces that I know  I’ll never wear again?  But what’s this?… an old pair of brown culottes from Express?  First of all, what the heck was I thinking?  Yes, I wore them once or twice… somehow I rocked the culottes.  Paired with tall boots and turtle neck, they weren’t so bad.  To toss or not to toss?  That is the question.  Hmmmm… I’ve got it!  Let’s modify the culottes.  Genius!

So I took them to my tailor and we turned them into shorts!Culottes Turned Shorts
Now the hunt begins!  I’m going through my closet piece by piece, thinking of ways to update and recreate some of my old favorites.  It just takes a little imagination and a great tailor!  I’ll keep you posted  🙂
