Runway Translation: The Bare Midriff

Spring 2013 Runway Trend- Bare Midriff
runway photos: style.com

Here’s a spring trend that dominated the runways and simply will not go away on the streets… the bare midriff!  You may think this trend only works on the young, thin, modelesque types, and you’d be totally correct.  I do not recommend you try this one unless you are completely comfortable with showing some skin.  Here’s why I can’t hate on this look- because if done correctly it looks fabulous!  My two rules for pulling off the peek-a-boo belly style are #1 make sure the skirt is high-waisted enough to cover your belly button and #2 the bottom of the crop top should almost touch the waistline of the skirt so you just show a sliver of skin.  Here’s my dressy version…

Sneaky Sneakers

Black Wedge Sneakers Street Style Cluster

One footwear trend that nearly escaped my clutches this season is the ever-popular sneaker wedges.  With a hidden 2-3 inch wedge inside, these comfy and fashion-forward kicks are a welcomed alternative to my Converse Chuck Taylors.  I just ordered the pair shown below from Aldo at Brandon Town Center and am anxiously awaiting their arrival! I love how they can be dressed up or down, depending on a few key complimentary pieces.  To rock this trend simply pair a long blousy top with a pair of skinny pants and finish the look off with an oversized bag…Black Wedge Sneakers Look

Fifty Shades of Whimsy

Spring 2013 Trend- Statement Sunglasses

One of the most fantastical trends to hit the streets this season has been the revival of statement sunglasses.  You can turn just about any outfit into a fashion-forward ensemble by throwing on a pair of unique, whimsical shades.  I’m loving the trendy offerings from Nasty Gal and Asos (especially the lizard cat eye pair for $41.56)… and for a mere $12 you can’t go wrong with a fun pair from Aldo.
