CITY: Fashion + Art + Culture 2019 Featuring Angel Sanchez

CITY: Fashion + Art + Culture is a yearly signature event organized by the Tampa Museum of Art. Through this unique experience, Tampa comes together to celebrate fashion and art and the Museum raises funds to help bring art and educational programs to visitors of all ages.

On Saturday, September 14th the museum was transformed into an energetic runway where internationally acclaimed Fashion Designer Angel Sanchez featured his latest beautiful evening gown collection.

Angel Sanchez grew up with fashion. His mother was his first inspiration , and her atelier in Venezuela was his first introduction to fabrics, dresses and style.

After graduating with a degree in Architecture, Angel decided to follow his dreams and quickly became a very well known designer in his native country of Venezuela. In 1997 he expanded his activities to the US, where his evening wear was sold in prestigious stores such as Saks Fifth Avenue, Neiman Marcus and Bergdorf Goodman.

1999 was a turning point in Angel’s career where he introduced his first bridal collection and presented his evening collection in New York Fashion Week.

Angel’s design style is best known by its architectural details and structured silhouette. He takes the classic cut and adds his own dramatic touch, turning it into a contemporary but timeless piece. You can see it in the movement of his gowns and their precise lines. He loves to tell a story with each of his dresses and this is what makes his work unforgettable.

Now he is a member of the Council of Fashion Designers of America, and he is present in Miami and New York. Angels’ gowns have been worn by many celebrities; Meryl Streep, Sandra Bullock, and Beyoncé, to name a few.

Because Angel is reflecting modern classic art through his creations, his latest runway show at CITY gave us the feel of Valentino’s big shoulders, Yves Saint Laurent’s classic cuts & long trains, and Oscar de la Renta’s bright colors. All of this was presented in one cohesive collection personalized by his signature dramatic twist. This runway collection was marked by the elegant one shoulder cut, a generous incorporation of feathers, and the use of bold colors like Emerald Green, Royal Blue and Hot Pink.

Cocktails X Couture @ The Ritz

For the third year in a row Cocktails & Couture absolutely SMASHED IT at The Ritz in Ybor Tampa.  The Cocktails X Couture event was held Saturday, January 17th and was sponsored by Tampa Bay Fashion Week, Tribeca Color Salon, Square One, The Ritz Ybor, & Kevin Murphy and select proceeds benefitted the Pediatric Cancer Foundation.  I’ve been in attendance since its inception and can honestly say that this recent #CXC15 was gloves down the most entertaining show to date. What a visual cornucopia of flavor… a people watcher’s dream come true!  This fashion-lover’s event was jam packed with style, both on the stage and in the audience.

Essentially, it was a show within a show within a show.  There were three shows performed on stage in the impressive main ball room, breaking up the audience’s night into alternating periods of being entertained and being fabulously sociable.  There were two additional bar rooms which housed performance art, local art for sale, and fashions by the designers featured in the runway show.  This seemed to be where the pulse of the networking crowd would escalate between sets, where all walks of style combined and mingled with one another until the next show.  I thought the timeline flowed nicely and was blown away by the music DJ Elias Throux was pumping out throughout the night.  The runway fashion featured a wild mix of everything from everyday jeans & tees to whimsical paper dresses to leather body harnesses, a little something for every palette.  I was also impressed by the heightened fashions adorning the diverse crowd of culture connoisseurs.  All walks of life came out for this stylish event and I think that speaks volumes about the rise of fashion here in Tampa, Florida.

Being greeted by Vegas Showgirls upon entry is not a bad way to start the night…  CXC01- Vegas ShowgirlsDesigner fashions from Dolce Creative (above) and Madel Fashions (below)…CXC02- Red Carpet
