What Is Virtual Squad Shopping?

In the good old days (before Aunt Rona stopped by), shopping with your girlfriends was the perfect remedy for any ailment. Going through a breakup? Let’s go shopping! Having a bad hair day? Let’s go shopping! Haven’t left the house in two months? Girl, let’s go shopping!

Sadly, the days of hopping into a limo van and touring boutiques with your besties while clicking champagne glasses are, for the moment, on hold. I should know, because I host Boutique Shopping Tours… and things have, well, let’s just say things have slowed down a bit on that front.

No worries, we can still shop together separately! Virtually! We can share a toast and gather for girl time, absorb the current trends, and check pieces off our lists… all from the comfort of our own homes. The virtual squad shopping trend is rising fast, and for good reason… it’s super fun!

So how does this work exactly? I’m sure you’re familiar with the Zoom app at this point. They’ve cornered the market on virtual group meetings and their platform enables anyone and everyone to host presentations online for scores of guests. Many retailers utilize similar platforms and apps to provide ways for groups of customers to gather virtually to view their stylish offerings.

Some brands, like cabi, have their own proprietary platform designed to empower their stylists with the ability to present virtual fashion shows to groups while they serve their clients by guiding them through the collections. These cabi ‘Front Row’ shows are typically hosted by a guest, who invites her girlfriends to join the show and shop the collection. It’s very similar to an in-person show, in that the hostess receives benefits based on show orders, and it’s usually an intimate group of gal pals who end up having a blast while shopping the “racks” and catching up. The primary difference between virtual and in-person shows is that during the virtual shows we get to watch videos of models wearing the pieces styled from head to toe. This is extremely helpful, considering trying on the pieces is not an option.

So the next time you think of popping open the laptop to order some clothes online, take a moment to consider how much more fun it would be to reach out to your local cabi stylist and book a virtual show for you and your besties. Think of it as a great excuse to touch base with the special ladies in your life you haven’t seen in a long time. They miss you… and they miss shopping too!

XOXO,
Michelle
